Industry News

OutSystems raises $150 million dollars at a $9.5 billion dollar valuation

A big trend in the Software Industry is giving developers more leverage. A great example of that is with the Serverless trend, which we covered in our last email.

Another example is with Low Code tools. You’ve probably heard of No Code tools, like Wordpress or Webflow ( tools to build websites without knowing HTML/CSS).

Low Code tools are a step higher; where you still have visual tools, but developers have the ability to write code to modify the visual tools to add more functionality.

This allows developers to build applications much faster, as they can use off-the-shelf software for the majority of their apps, but also modify the software where necessary. That’s the theory at least.

OutSystems is a company that develops low code tools in the B2B space. Their platform allows businesses to quickly build software services to suit their specific needs.

The OutSystem platform handles scaling, security and also provides machine learning capabilities. They also provide integrations that make it easy to connect with services like PayPal, Twilio, Salesforce, MongoDB and hundreds of other apps.

The company has been growing massively over the past few years and they’ve 9x’d their valuation since 2018!

The company now raised $150 million dollars at $9.5 billion dollar valuation and will probably be IPO’ing soon.

Tech Snippets

  • How They SRE is an amazing resource on best practices, tools, techniques and the culture of Site Reliability Engineering.

    • It’s a Github Repo collecting best practices on DevOps, Chaos Engineering, Automation and Site Reliability Engineering from a ton of big tech companies

  • India has been considering a ban of private ownership of cryptocurrencies. Balaji Srinivasan, ex-CTO of Coinbase, wrote an amazing essay on why banning cryptocurrency would be bad for India and what the country should do instead.

  • China is investing heavily in building their own digital currency with the “e-yuan”. As part of a test, they’ve given away tens of millions of renminbi that can only be downloaded through a digital wallet. China is intent on becoming the first large economy to unveil the digital currency, showcasing it to the world at next year’s Winter Olympics (in Beijing).

A valid board follows these rules

  1. Each row must contain the digits 1 - 9 without repetition

  2. Each column must contain the digits 1 - 9 without repetition

  3. Each of the nine 3 x 3 sub-boxes of the grid must contain the digits 1 - 9 without repetition

The sudoku board may not be entirely filled. If there are empty boxes, then validate the board based off the filled boxes.
